SEARCHING MADE EASY
Web Wombat is a huge searchable index of information available
on the Internet, with new web sites and the information about
the sites frequently updated.
These help pages will run you through how to use our Simple
Search and the additional features of our Advanced
Search as well as how to understand
the results it generates and refine
your search.
SIMPLE SEARCH
For a simple search on Web Wombat, all you need to do is enter
one or more words, select either Australian/NZ sites or World
sites, and click the search button.
The search engine then checks its index for web sites that
contain those keywords. It finds all of the web pages in which
those keywords appear and then returns a list of links to
pages that contain the search words in the geograpic area
you selected.
It also ranks your results so that the closest matches to
your keywords are displayed first.
To find relevant information quickly, use words that are specific
to your search topic and avoid unnesessary, irrevelant words.
If you wanted to find information about the Royal Botanic
Gardens in Sydney, typing in the words Botanic Gardens
would find you lots of information about all types of Botanic
Gardens, but you may need to scroll through pages of results
before you found one relating specifically to the Royal Botanic
Gardens in Sydney.
It is best to use words that would be contained in the pages,
rather that a description of the information.
To tailor your search, you might use the Web
Wombat Advanced Search.
