Independent Spirit Awards : 2015 Nominations

What was once "Film Awards Season" has now turned into "Film Awards Year", a promotional treadmill that Hollywood has no intention of turning off. The list of awards ceremonies keeps on growing and growing (the most recent addition being the Hollywood Film Awards), however, there are very few that celebrate films of integrity.

Sure, we all know the big studio films will win Oscars, but what about those films that slipped under the mainstream radar? Ladies and gentlemen, we give you the Independent Spirit Awards.

Celebrating its 30th year, this years Film Independent Spirit Awards hightlights a stellar array of films which, for one reason or another, failed to find the sort of commercial success they all thouroughly deserved.

The biggest hit here is Alejandro G. Iñárritu's critical darling "Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)" a film which is considered an indie hit (yet only raked in just over $18M in America). Hardly a blip on the radar when compared to something like Transformers or Guardians of the Galaxy.

Box Office numbers aside, the flick has landed a whopping six nominations here, trailed only by Richard Linklater's oddyssey "Boyhood" and Dan Gilroy's buzz film of the 2014 "Nightcrawler" with five nominations nods each.
