The sky is falling, the sky is falling! If it wasn't bad enough Disney and Pixar were destroying their brand track record with sequels to just about everything (Toy Story 3, Cars 2, Monsters University, Finding Dory) but now they are making spin-offs of the worst product they ever created : Cars.
There is no hiding the fact that Cars has been the ultimate cash cow franchise for Disney / Pixar - it's box office figures are it's lowest but the associated income from toys and kids products was astronomical. So to see Disney's Planes not only be promoted from a straight-to-dvd to cinema release is less exciting to me as it is to the pockets of the big wigs at Disney.
The trailer leaves little to the imagination... this is literally Cars in the sky.
The 3D animated "comedy" follows the adventures of Dusty (voice of Dane Cook... the first give away this will be terrible), as a plane with dreams of being a high flying air racer. Not surprisingly, Dusty's not built for racing (is this starting to sound like Turbo to you?), oh yeah, and he's afraid of heights.
Yep, ridiculous!
So Dusty teams up with some seasoned pals to take on the defending champ of the race circuit.
This movie is the very reason the scene below for Dogma (Warning: don't let your kids watch it!) is still so relevent.
