Prisoners
Sneak Peek at "Prisoners"
It feels like forever since Hugh Jackman dug his heels into something genuinely gritty. Sure, we've seen him look distressed in between the explosions of Wolverine. Hell, we've even seen him look vaguely upset in Australia (maybe that's because he knew he was in the movie Australia). But it's not since his pre-Hollywood days have audiences seen what he's truly capable of.
I'm talking, specifically, about the little seen Aussie flick Erskineville Kings. This was, reportedly, the movie that landed Jackman the role of Wolverine in the first place (one would argue his ties with the Murdoch's had something to do with it to) - and it's easy to see why (watch THAT movie in full below).
So it's great to see something like Prisoners making its way to cinemas, a film that not only houses an eclectic ensemble cast... but also gives Jackman the canvas to really let himself thrive.
The story follows Keller Dover who faces every parent's worst nightmare - having his 6 year old daughter (and her young friend) go missing. After finding a suspect, who is soon set free by police, in a run down RV parked on their street Dover decides to take matters into his own hands.
There's a certain "Lovely Bones" vibe to this whole thing... except, without Mark Wahlberg (thank heavens)... but purely from the trailer you just know you're getting value for money. Let's hope this thing makes money and people start to realise just HOW GOOD Hugh Jackman can be.
I've got this pegged an Oscar hopeful already.
