The Purge
Sneak Peek at "The Purge"
Now that's more like it Hollywood! It's astonishing to think that so much creativity comes from so many restrictions. While the rest of the world winces at $200M blockbusters devoid of any value - studios have secretly been pushing the envelope by green lighting lots of $1.5M budgeted horror films.
The latest looks superb, a mix of The Strangers, Funny Games, A Clockwork Orange and Battle Royale (the trailers of which you can see below) and it's success comes from the simplicity of it's concept.
If, on one night every year, you could commit any crime without facing consequences - what would you do?
This is the quandary The Purge promises to explore... and it's an amazing idea!
In an alternate universe America, destroyed by crime and overcrowded prisons, the all seeing, all knowing government sanctions an annual 12 hour period in which any and all criminal activity (including murder) becomes legal.
The police can't be called. Hospitals unable to help.
It is the one night when the citizens regulate themselves without fear of punishment.
This first installment (I guarantee you this will build a cult following and get the sequel treatment) follows one family over the course of a single "Purge" night, these four people will pushed to the limit to see how far they'll go to protect themselves and their family when the vicious outside world breaks into their home.
It looks creepy, it looks gruesome - but more importantly - it looks like the kind of flick that will inspire some pretty heated dinner party conversations! More of this I say!
