The World's End
Sneak Peek at "The World's End"
It's a comedic adventure that began over a decade ago with a cult TV series called "Spaced". It teamed up two comedic visionaries, Big Train's sketch expert Simon Pegg and visionary director Edgar Wright. Into the mix they added Pegg's friend Nick Frost and a trio of unlikely lads was thrust onto the public.
Following Spaced, a series of game changing comedies emerged including Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. Individually the trio all attempted other things (Paul, Scott Pilgrim vs The World) but the what we've all been waiting for is The World's End. It's pipped to be the FINAL of their teams movie "trilogy" if you will. A sad day indeed, but if the trailer is anything to go by - we're in for a real treat!
The World's End follows five friends who reunite in an attempt to top their epic pub crawl from 20 years earlier unwittingly become humankind's only hope for survival.
They are convinced to stage an encore by mate Gary King (Simon Pegg), a 40-year-old man trying to relive his teens, however, as they attempt to reconcile the past and present, they realise the real struggle is for the future, not just theirs but humankind's.
Yes, it's classic "Spaced" team stuff. There's mates, there's beer and - most importantly - it's got normal bloke thrust into an extraordinary genre loving situation.
The only problem I can see with The World's End is the sheer competition it faces with subject matter. As far as we know there are at least THREE other "End of the World" comedies headed for cinemas (including This Is The End and RapturePalooza) - oddly, all being released WELL AFTER the "2012 End of the World" hype was happening in the real world.
So not only are there too many of them, it's also an irreleavent topic! Oh well.
Let the best team win!
