Adele - Skyfall - Offical James Bond Theme
So it's official, world famous set of lungs Adele will be taking on the "Skyfall" theme song. Skyfall, of course, is the title track for the upcoming James Bond 007 action epic and will no doubt go down in history as one of the franchises classics.
The movie isn't even out yet, but somehow the track is already available for pre-order at iTunes starting today to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the release of James Bond's first adventure Dr. No, and thus the James Bond film franchise. It's such a huge event, October 5 has been announced as "Global James Bond Day".
Personally, I was rooting for former Oasis front man Noel Gallagher to take the mantle of the new Bond song with his track "Freaky Teeth" (a song he has been spruiking live for the past year or so), however, Bond gurus have decided to go in a more classic direction with a female vocalist.
Adele asked Paul Epworth to co-write and produce the Skyfall theme but suggests that she was "A little hesitant at first to be involved... [as there is]... a lot of instant spotlight and pressure when it comes to a Bond song".
She went onto remark that she fell in "love with the script" and that "Paul had some great ideas for the track" which ultimately lead to it "being a bit of a no brainer to do it in the end".
The song is lush and epic and contains all the traits of a classic Bond song including a 77 piece orchestra.
"When we recorded the strings, it was one of the proudest moments of my life. I'll be back combing my hair when I'm 60 telling people I was a Bond girl back in the day I'm sure!" said the down to earth singer who recorded the song at the world famous Abbey Road Studios in London.
It's good timing by Bond producers who have capitalised on Adele's phenomenal success (having sold over 24 million albums worldwide) and also the fact that this will be her first new recording since releasing her massive sophomore album 21 in 2011.
For those interested in things other than music, the "Skyfall" movie will be released in Australian cinemas November 22.
Now, to keep your toes tappin', let's take a look back at some of the best Bond songs over the years - as well as Noel Gallagher's missed opportunity.
