Daft Punk - Get Lucky : The Best Cover Versions & Mash Ups
It's the song that spawned a pop culture phenomenon, a song which cemented the power of hype, a song that's damn near impossible not to dance to.
Yes, Daft Punk have returned with their new album Random Access Memories - an album which has stirred up its fair share of chatter and expectations. It's an ecelectic and interesting album, both totally unexpected and perfectly in tune with what the Daft Punk brand has been known to churn out over the last decade.
However, it's the lead song "Get Lucky" which was leaked to the public in drips - the musical version of Chinese Water Torture... or more accurately "blue balling" - and has ceased to lose it's mystic. Why? People just seem to love a good ol' fashioned disco groove.
The single has been a hit worldwide. In France it debuted at #1 (making it Daft Punk's first chart topper in their home town since "One More Time") selling over 38,887 copies in just three days (also making it the best selling digital single in a one week period ever - TAKE THAT TORRENTERS!).
Meanwhile in places like Belgium, the UK (where over 600,000 copies of the song were sold just four weeks), the USA (the duo's first ever top 40 hit on the Billboard charts) and Australia, "Get Lucky" also conquered the charts (albeit after having to climb it's way up there... no mean feat in this day and age of disposable #1's).
More important, the song has really struck a chord with other artists. Not only do they have the public in the palm of their hands, but even their peers. UK DJ legend Fatboy Slim was even quoted as saying "I'm so impressed by them. It's a breath of fresh old-skool air... Daft Punk have given us [electronic musicians] all a kick up the arse."
This universal love has led to a crazy number of impersinators, mash ups... and downright cash ins. From comedian Peter Serafinowicz's bizarre self made video clip, to the musical interpretations of Aussie kids San Cisco, Daft Punk's influence can be felt far and wide.
To celebrate this, we thought we'd check out some of the coolest reboots and mash ups of "Get Lucky".
Enjoy
Meanwhile, this one is just hilarious, because the guy is so clearly unable to hide his accent. Casual racism, or just fun and games... you decide THE INTERNET!
But seriously, it's pretty funny. Good on him for giving it a go.
In all honesty, it wasn't that bad, especially when you compare it to the live performance of the REAL singer of the song (Pharrell Williams of NERD) who seems to have put in a little less effort.
