Daft Punk: Random Access Memories - Leaked Tracks
Is it real, or is it fake, Oprah Whinfrey, Ricky Lake? There is an incredible power in not giving away too much. While for some, being coy and mysterious gives off an impression of rude and shy - in the hands of others it's a weapon more powerful than a bit of jewelery owned by a Hobbit.
Daft Punk are true masters of coy. They are the kings of musical cock teasers. They rarely release works, yet when they do, it's an event. And more often than not they are able to live up to the hype. Justin Timberlake gave it a go with his 20/20 Experience album, but the sad fact is he really didn't have the skills to warrant the wait.
Anyhow, Daft Punk are not far away from officially unveiling their long awaited new album (people seem to forget they did the score for Tron Legacy) and in the lead up they are drip feeding slices of magic to their adoring masses like a murder drips water into the basement dungeon of his victims thirsty for a morsel of life.
Those who have been watching Saturday Night Live recently will have noticed some pretty primo teaser commercials popping up. Even the idea of choosing SNL as the platform for which to unleash these ads (the show airs past midnight in the USA - but is considered the coolest place still on TV) is another master stroke and one that is in no way an accident.
Like I said, masters of the musical cock tease.
We haven't been able to get our hands on the official version of "Get Lucky" yet, however there have been some impressive bootlegs floating around which include hacked up and spliced versions of the various previews and leaks that have so far made themselves onto the net. In a way, it's the most brilliant form of viral free marketing I've ever seen - by simply drip feeding bits and pieces... THE PEOPLE have done all the work for them.
Like I said, masters of coy.
The new song features Pharrell Williams on vocals (a guy who, admittedly, went through a bit of an average patch over the last decade) and Nile Rodgers on guitar. The official song clocks in at just over four minutes and is just as funky and disco heavy as the teasers imply.
Anyhew, here's what we've found so far. See if you can rip these and make a version of your own... everyone else seems to be!
