Sound City - Film and Soundtrack - Dave Grohl & Friends

Dave Grohl is now, without question, music royalty. He will be remembered alongside the Lennon's, the Jagger's, the Petty's and the Springsteen's of the musical history books. Rightfully so! Not only was he the drummer in one of the most influential bands of all time (Nirvana) he's managed to carve out a mainstream rock niche with the Foo Fighters and a string of side projects.

He is now adding film maker to his long list of skills, but luckily he isn't straying to far from what he knows : music.

Sound City is a new, truly amazing, music doco about Sound City Studios - a scummy old music studio located in the San Fernando Valley, amidst a bunch of run down warehouses. The amazing thing is that this little known recording studio was home to some of the greatest artists and albums the music world has ever known.

Names like Fleetwood Mac, Neil Young, Rick Springfield, Tom Petty, Kyuss and - of course - Nirvana have all recorded their own take on the "groundbreaking record" at the studio. Grohl's film tells the story of how the studio grew from it's very early days, and how it crumbled when it closed 2011. It then follows Dave Grohl (who purchased the studio's mythical custom analog console) who sets up a "new era" Sound Studio in his home.

Even more impressive than the movie itself is the amazing soundtrack that's been assembled (and obviously recorded using the famous equipment).

Dave Grohl's Sound City Players are a rag tag team of hard nosed rockers and divas and features mega music mashups and meet ups with the likes of Stevie Nicks, Tim & Brad from Rage Against The Machine and a dream team combo of Grohl, Josh Homme, Trent Reznor and Paul McCartney.

For those wondering, here's the full track listing. And just a reminder of music fans - you receive an instant download of "Cut Me Some Slack" when you pre-order through iTunes. We aren't making cash off telling you this, we just thought you'd like to know as music nerds share and care!
