The gods
of old Olympus led very human like lives but with human like
emotions leaps and bound ahead of anything human. Envy,
jealousy,
greed, gluttony, debauchery, hate, anger, among others, were all part
of the day to day life of a god. Not only did they squabble,
scheme
and meddle in the affairs of every other god (which in olympian terms
means there is a god for just about everything) but they interfered in
the daily goings on of the men (and women) who paid them homage.
Transport those gods three thousand years
into the future, plonk then down in present day London and give them
mundaine jobs like, a sex phone operator, a ham
actor (and a very bad one), dog walker, courier and disco/wine bar owner and see how they
survive. Very much the same actually. With powers
dimished to such an extent that they are on the verge of extinction.
Quite a quandry, for them at least.
Arise a very human hero and heroine and watch as they interact with the
gods and deal with some ethical and moral questions. Apollo,
as an example, grapples with saying sorry and the meaning of
forgiveness, not something gods appear to understand.
This is a fun read that may not have you laughing out loud but will
bring a smile to your dial with some of the issues the gods have to
contend with in a very modern London.
