The
author embarks on a cathartic examination of her life to age
nine. She does this through the eyes of different personae:
Ann, Annie and Anwyn, all of whom dwell within the consciousness of the
author but have different personalities and recall and interpret
aspects of her life in different ways. Each endeavor to come to terms
with their life and cajole and encourage each other to find truth and
acceptance in their early relationship with their parents and extended
family.
The authors life over those early years was one of being abandoned by
her mother, neglected and sexually molested by her father and being
passed from person to person within her extended family and social
network.
The title
of the book is drawn from a poignant episode where the author describes
an insight into her life that belies her youth. (A tear
jerking moment).
Once
through the introductory pages where the author, drawing on Jungian
psychology and the philosophy of Nietzsche, maps out her three
personae, the book settles into a beautifully written life story of the
helplessness of a young child who is a surviver and who develops
strength, independence and resolve to live and succeed against what
seems to be insurmountable odds.
As the
book concludes you are left wanting to know what happens next, maybe
the next nine years in her life, so hopefully book two is not too long
in the writing.
