10cc Alive: The Classic Hits Tour

The very first album I bought was Queen's Night at the Opera, the second was 10cc's How Dare You!

Now while the former went way off its rock background in subsequent records, the band members of 10cc continually offered innovative music and just sensational lyrics.

Who could forget the words of Don't Hang Up where dumb waiters, sweating, straining, all mass debating my woman! The mental imagery was almost too much for a teenage lad!

Anyway, for those younger than 40, 10cc was a successful band that put out a string of terrific singles and albums and whose songbook included the massive sellers Art for Art's Sake, I'm Not in Love and I'm Mandy Fly Me.

Add to those the pleasing to the ear Wall Street Shuffle,
Good Morning Judge, The Things We Do For Love, Rubber Bullets and the reggae Dreadlock Holiday off Bloody Tourists and you had a band that was different and cool.

10cc Alive: The Classic Hits Tour brings back a lot of good memories and while the quality of the DVD is okay, the music itself is great.

It was filmed during the band's comeback tour in Japan in the early '90s and has most of the songs 10cc fans want to hear. It has to be said I was a tad gobsmacked that I'm Mandy Fly Me wasn't included - but, hey, when have I ever been a good judge of music?!

The video transfer is very soft, although the colours are fine, and the sound is a tad muddy. Keeping in mind that these guys were well ahead of the pack in terms of additional sounds in their albums that's a bit disappointing.

However, all that said, it is fantastic to have these guys on DVD as a permanent record of how great a group they were. Fans should have a really good look at this one!
