The Fourth Angel

It is not often this chap can say that a TV series has grabbed his utmost attention but, in the case of the World War 2 drama Band of Brothers, it did so with a vengeance.

Usually the commercial hype puts me off, but this show had two strong drawcards.

One being the pairing of Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks as executive producers, the second was a cast of semi-unknowns. The latter on big-budget productions tends to point towards strong content not needing 'big-name' sellability.

Jack Elgin (Jeremy Irons) is an award-winning journalist on a major European publication.

He knows people in very high places and is jetting off to do an interview in India when his plane is hijacked. That's not good and things are even worse because Elgin has taken his family along for a "holiday".

The rescue assault is botched, many people die - including some of his family - and he begins to use the legal system to try to bring the killers to justice.

When that fails, he picks up some guns and sets out to do a Dirty Harry on them.

Now while you do need to take a few leaps in plausibility in The Fourth Angel, it is a damn good thriller and the cast does an extremely good job.

Irons, not usually my favourite actor, is spot on as the vengeful man, Forest Whitaker is even better as an agent out to hunt down the vigilante.

The Fourth Angel does get a bit bloody, but the action and violence are well within the bounds of the subject matter.

The transfer is absolutely terrific and the sound guys have matched that with an effort that will have your speakers buzzing.

Conclusion: Movie 80% Extras 65%
