Agents Jack (Lou Diamond Phillips) and Stephanie (Lori Petty)
get their guy Pussy (Steven Williams), an intelligent smart-mouth
who very quickly gets up their nostrils (but endears himself
to the audience), and just manage to elude hired killers sent
to eliminate him.
But the Russian mafia type sent to silence him is no sook
and forces the team of agents to head off-highway along a
sinister closed road - Route 66.
Jack finds himself being beset by strange visions as if there
is a mystical link from the road - closed by the locals because
it is evil - to him. These spooky revelations involve a desolate
graveyard, one that the group just so happens to stop at -
triggering some very gory incidents.
Phillips is his usual solid self and Petty is fine as his
partner, but the best part is of the prisoner and Williams
plays it for all he's worth.
The transfer is very good and shows off the desert scenery
to perfection.
Route 666 is a B-grader but, with a temporary suspension
of belief, it is fun viewing.
