American Pie 2

Review by James Anthony

There are very few things this chap would not do to be in the same room as a couple of gorgeous women dressed in bikinis.

There are even fewer things that would ruin my enjoyment of watching them "together", as it were.

However, kissing a bloke and joining in a "you do it and then we'll do it" situation is waaay beyond the pale.

Mind you, the guys from American Pie find the temptation too much and in the sequel, American Pie 2, they put on an extremely funny scene involving the aforementioned ladies and themselves.

As you'd expect, American Pie 2 follows a similar style to the highly successful original - although this time around they are a tad more adult about relationships. Well, sort of.

The summer holidays are approaching and the guys are heading off to a beach house. It's going to be parties, parties, parties - and a little bit of work as painters to pay the bills.

However, for our hero Jim (Jason Biggs) it is a time to ready himself for the imminent arrival of the stunningly gorgeous Nadia (Shannon Elizabeth), yes she of the internet sex fame. Despite his having lost his virginity to the experienced band member Michelle (Alyson Hannigan) he's still a bit nervous round the girls and he wants her to help him develop his prowess.

The other guys are also having problems. Arch turkey Stifler (Seann William Scott) is still a moronic pain in the ass, Kevin (Thomas Ian Nicholas) has been dropped by his girl and wants to win her back, Oz is missing his girl Heather (Mena Suvari).

Most of the humour is basic and very teen-oriented, however, Eugene Levy returns as Jim's dad and adds a massive amount of dry, brilliant humour to proceedings.

You have to watch for the lubricant scene, which is even funnier than the original pie episode. And Finch's relationship with Mrs Stifler is an absolute hoot.

If you liked the first, then American Pie 2 will definitely be to your taste. It is exceptionally funny in parts.

The transfer is stunningly well done and so is the sound. Add to that a very good set of extras and you have a damn good package.

Conclusion: Movie 85%, Extras 75%
