The Animal

Rob Schneider is The Animal and when you first get to meet his character Marvin Mange you'll be struck by the fact he is the least animalistic creature you've set eyes on. In fact, he's a loser - even kids think so - and his job as a police property clerk doesn't help.

He's flunked basic training for the cops several times and is desperate to join the boys in blue and be a copper like his long-departed dad.

Poor old Marvin needs a bit of a hand and fate throws him a bone, so to speak, when it nearly kills him in a road accident - a very funny scene!

He survives, but only just, and is put back together by a mad scientist (our own Michael Caton) who uses a few body parts from animals to make sure he's all there.

From wimp, Mange turns into a super cop and can not only hear things going on at a long distance, but also sniff out drugs from people's butts. The airport scene is hilarious.

But while there is that good side to the transplants, there is also a bad as the animal parts begin to take over and he finds himself humping mail boxes, spraying and finding a female goat very attractive indeed!

Will our guy fight off his animal urges - impossible! But he does find romance with former Survivor Colleen Haskell, beats his police nemesis - a terrifically awful John C McGinley - and finds a perfect balance between humans and God's creatures.

This is a no-brainer movie that is a bit hit and miss in the humour department but is fun to watch and never gets too gross. Well, not a lot anyway.

A note of warning, check the box for the region coding. If you have a multi-region there's no drama, but if you want to look at it on a single-region player or the computer then you'll cop a Region 1 warning. Don't you bloody hate regions on DVD?!

Conclusion: Movie 80%, Extras 70%
