His latest appearance continues the "Groovy Baby" tradition
but there are some heavier matters in the mix, particularly
the grotesque and obese Fat Bastard, a cannibal Scottish soldier
with a taste for that other white meat - babies.
Apart from Dr Evil's quarter-size clone Mini-Me, the lovely
Felicity Shagwell (Heather Graham) also earns the unwanted
attention of Fat Bastard.
One of the highlights/lowlights of the movie is where a chicken-fat
smeared FB is naked in bed with Ms Shagwell exposing acres
of jelly-like flesh. Brilliant make-up work on Mike Myers
but, eeerrrkkkkk, not a good look.
One excellent look is the use of Rob Lowe as a young Robert
Wagner (No.2). He really shines as the drippy second-in-command.
Another highlight is the tent scene where the silhouettes
of Austin and Felicity pull off one of the funniest-ever series
of sight gags. It all involves our kneeling hero and all sorts
of props, including a knotted rope, an umbrella, a beer bottle
and, yes, even a gerbil, that are apparently removed from
his nether regions. Very funny, if somewhat lewd.
The story involves Austin having to travel back into the
1960s to save himself because Dr Evil has taken his Mojo -
secret libido juices - and without them poor Austin is, well,
just not his usual self.
All up, there's fun, adventure and a host of sex-based gags,
all done in poor taste and most of them very funny.
One of the seriously sad parts about Austin Powers 2 is the
huge number of would-be Dr Evil's who clog the Web Wombat
offices and wander around with their pinkies in their mouths
going: "pretty much", "quasi evil" and
"lasers".
Come to think of it, there's also a lot who wander around
with Scottish accents saying: "I'm sexy, you were crap".
