Ballistic

Review by James Anthony

Just like this fellow's inability to pick the best checkout queue in the supermarket, it seems Antonio Banderas can't pick movies.

He's done some classics such as The Mask of Zorro, Philadelphia, Spy Kids 1 and 2 - and then some suss ones like Assassins and Original Sin.

Ballistic, unfortunately, is one of the latter. Oh, it has lots and lots and lots of action and stunt scenes, but in terms of anything else the movie shoots itself in the foot.

The plot is acceptable, but mishandled, and Ballistic wavers on that line between good action yarn and let's-throw-in-all-the-explosions-we-can-to-cover-up-the-gaps-in-logic.

Don't get me wrong, Banderas is good as a worn-out agent Ecks, it's just that the scripting fails him badly.

Lucy Liu is super-badgirl Sever, who is out for revenge against the controllers who ruined her life. Her attitude is bad - the acting not much better - and she fails the kick-ass test of believability.

The video transfer is very good and the sound even better.

Now I found Ballistic disappointing, however, if you want a no-brainer time in front of the screen then it may just suit your mood.

There are better movies around.

Conclusion: 65% Extras: 50%.
