Maybe that's a bit harsh, for overall Bandits is good,
although a tad disappointing and predictable.
It follows the careers of two bank robbers known as the Sleepover
Bandits, who hold bank managers hostage overnight in their
own homes and then get them to clean out the vaults the next
morning. They are pleasant and courteous and win themselves
a reputation for being almost Robin Hood-like.
Joe Blake (Bruce Willis) and Terry Collins (Billy Bob Thornton)
break out of prison and begin their crime spree in the hope
of getting enough together to buy a bar/nightclub down in
Mexico and live out the rest of their lives in comfort.
Blake is the action guy, while Collins is the planner and
thinker. He also has more phobias than a medical dictionary
and one whole hell of a lot of allergies.
Blanchett plays a neurotic and bored housewife, Kate Wheeler,
who finds herself semi-kidnapped by the pair and quickly falls
for them - both.
The video transfer has loads of visual problems with film
artefacts and aliasing, despite having excellent sharpness
and colour tone. The sound is clear, but not perfect.
Although many viewers will know what is coming, Bandits is
enjoyable - mainly for the actors - as the movie itself tends
to wander all over the place and dilutes its potential punch.
Mrs Anthony, however, disagrees with the above and rated it
very highly.
Conclusion: Movie 75%, Extras 65%
