His mates are all married, or gay, and he's left with an
illegal immigrant as his main TV-watching buddy.
Enter a little nipper who is his best friend's love child
and Sandler has to look after him while his pal works overseas.
Go on, you've worked the plot out already, haven't you?
Yup, Sandler is forced to grow up and look after the little
fellow but there are some amusing scenes inbetween the two
phases of his life.
The wet bed repairs are uncomfortably amusing, the yo-yo
gooby is exceedingly funny (although hard to work out if it
is real or digitally enhanced) and the regular hooters jibes
against his mate's girlfriend keep a smile on the lips.
Big Daddy is straight from the Sandler mould and he works
the formulaic material well in his amiable, naive way.
The cast is good and everyone looks like it was a fun time
on the set, a feeling that washes into the production.
Still, Big Daddy is, at best, nothing more than a pleasant
way to spend an hour-and-a-half - but then you wouldn't expect
anything else, would you?
