The plotline is that the older team captain is retiring and
has passed the baton on to Torrance (Kirsten Dunst) who, to
her horror, discovers that all the successful moves have been
stolen from a team in a poor neighbourhood, the Clovers.
So, our heoine decides to risk all by changing the style
of cheerleading and learning a new routine - a very bad move
just weeks before the National Championships.
Anyway, without giving too much away it's complete chaos
and only a massive effort will bring them another cheerleading
pennant.
Bring It On is mediocre entertainment, at best. It
lacks tension, excitement and, above all, a large quantity
of humour.
The characters are so boring - with the exception of the
sassy Eliza Dushku and Jesse Bradford as Dunst's would-be
boyfriend - and there is no focal point for liking/disliking
anyone.
There are two fairly amusing scenes - the cheerleader tryout
and the football match - but neither will have you in stitches.
I have to hand it to director Peyton Reed - never would I
have thought it possible that an hour-and-a-half of skimpily
clad teens shaking their poms poms would be so underwhelming.
This is strictly for kids in their early teens, or very sad
individuals going through divorce.
Conclusion: Movie 65%, Extras 50%
