 The Brothers Grimm

Review by Clint Morris & Colin Moore

Will Grimm flashes a well-kept smile at a desperate group of villagers. It's a near perfect set and makes you wonder... where can I get some of that 19th century dental work?

It seems out of place. But so do they, the Brothers Grimm (two m's).

Brothers Grimm

They're con men, offering their demon-ridding skills to anyone superstitious enough to listen, which happens to be a good chunk of the day's German townships.

Damon and Ledger play the literary legends, Jake and Will Grimm, undying pranksters who spend much of their time scaring townsfolk into believing that there’s a witch/goblin/troll threatening their township. In return, they’re paid to scare off the threat.

The joke eventually backfires, and the twosome find themselves recruited ‘for real’ - asked to journey into the woods to find out why small children have been disappearing. It’s there, in the eerie forest, that they discover a big bad wolf, an age-obsessed queen (Monica Bellucci) and a Sleeping Beauty.

Some fun, but the novelty wears off pretty quickly, with the film essentially going off-the-rails about mid-way through.

A really good idea, just poorly executed.

EXTRAS

Extras include featurettes, and a commentary by director Terry Gilliam.

Conclusion: Movie 60% Extras: 50%
