Brotherhood of the Wolf

If you are feeling the need for something a little different on your DVD player then Brotherhood of the Wolf may be what you are looking for.

It is a movie that mixes historical drama, horror, a dash of thriller and a lot of martial arts into its storyline about the hunt for a mythical beast in rural 18th Century France.

Now straight-off it has to be said that this is one gorgeous movie. The photography is rich and grand with a sumptuous hint of Barry Lyndon.

The main characters are Gregoire de Fronzac (Samuel Le Bihan) and his Mohawk friend Mani (Mark Dacascos) who find themselves on the trail of a murderous beast that is chomping its way through the inhabitants of Gevaudan.

The pair don't get a lot of help from the surly locals, but they have fighting skills that are second to none and don't really need the yokels.

Some of the fight scenes they get involved in are sensational and will delight action fans. The Beast itself is, however, a bit of a worry and when you finally get to see it Brotherhood of the Wolf loses a bit of its drama.

All in all, though, this is a great bit of entertainment.

The video transfer is brilliant and the sound is very good. By the way it is dubbed in English.

Conclusion: 80% Extras: 85%.
