Well, maybe became is too strong a way of putting
it because the youngster didn't train to be any of them -
he just masqueraded as them and began to pass a host of rubber
cheques that soon brought his escapades to the attention of
the FBI.
In particular, to the desk of one Carl Hanratty
(Tom Hanks) who begins a round-the-world chase to catch the
rascally lad.
It has to be said that the idea of this movie
never really grabbed me, although it did surprise as to how
entertaining it was. I'll have to say here that the opening
credits are some of the cleverest I have ever seen.
DiCaprio is very good as the absconder extraordinaire,
while Hanks is just well, superb as usual. Throw in nice roles
from Christopher Walken and Martin Sheen and you have a movie
that is very watchable, but also rather forgettable.
Catch Me if You Can has an excellent video transfer
and the sound is good enough to get your ears around the awful
accent that Hanks' character has.
Conclusion: 80% Extras: 20%.
