Then some really strange goings on start ... well, going
on ... and Regina Lambert (Thandie Newton) finds herself up
to her beautiful eyes in murder and intrigue.
Fortunately along comes a really nice guy called Joshua Peters
(Mark Wahlberg) who helps the damsel in distress and gets
her set up in a little Parisian hotel.
Now while Regina is getting her head straight, the French
coppers start to investigate the death of her hubby and find
that he had a plane-load of different passports, there is
something like $US6million missing and the warning bells start
ringing.
Just to add to the trouble our gal is in, three of her hubby's
old friends enter the scene desperate to share in what they
regard as their money.
It is a top cast - even with Wahlberg - and Newton is an
absolute revelation to this chap. She is terrific, believable
and suitably innocent - or is she?
The ever-superb Tim Robbins is a spook sent to keep an eye
on proceedings.
The question you keep asking yourself is are these people
who they say they are or is this just one massive sting? You'll
have to see the movie to find out - and it is well worthwhile.
The video transfer is a beauty, with Paris captured in excellent
style, and the music has a super soundtrack.
For film buffs, The Truth About Charlie is a remake
of Charade, the Cary Grant/Audrey Hepburn classic.
