Cocoon: The Return

Review by Clint Morris

Whilst probably not a shade on the original, The Ron Howard-less sequel to “Cocoon” (1985), aptly titled “Cocoon: The Return”, is still entertaining, to say the least.

In the follow-up, the senior citizens (who accompanied alien Brian Dennehy and company to Space at the end of the first movie) return to Earth to help collect some alien pods under threat – which are under the ocean.

Cocoon: The Return

They use it as an opportunity to catch up with their family, and later realize that even just being back on earth for such a short time can have its side effects.

While the comedy and drama don’t seem to mesh as well this time around as they did first time, the re-introduction of those lovable characters and the presence of some truly magnetic character actors makes it worth a look see, in the very least.

The DVD transfer is rather nice – the sound is sharp and clear, and the video, similarly clear and detailed, is without too much grain or colour saturation. It’s aged well.

Conclusion: Movie 70% Extras: N/A
