The basic plot is that an American satellite crashes into
Kakadu and its top secret data - contained in a metal case
- is swallowed by a giant crocodile.
Agents are sent out to retrieve the information and despite
Australia being a 'friendly' country, will do anything they
need to get it back.
Mind you, the poor old Americans don't realise that while
Aussies are pretty friendly, some of our critters ain't and
these guys come face-to-face with some pretty horrible bitey
things.
Now Steve Irwin and his wife Terri get called in to move
the giant croc from where it is feasting upon cattle owned
by feral farmer Brozzie Drewett (Magda Szubanski) and shift
it to another river system.
Of course the US agents, who the Irwins think are poachers,
give chase and what follows is a pretty funny series of incidents.
Both Steve and Terri pretty much play themselves, but with
lots of tongue in cheek. There's one part where he talks about
not being brave enough to tackle such a bad-tempered monster
(meaning Brozzie) although he's prepared to take on the croc.
Szubanski is very funny in her role and her meanness is countered
nicely by David Wenham's nice-guy park ranger.
Kate Beahan does a fine job playing an Aussie agent working
with the US agents and she is not only pretty capable, but
a bit of a spunk.
Of course you get to see the Crocodile Hunter dealing with
nasty-biteys, including the croc, a gigantic king brown snake
and the nastiest bird-eating spider I have ever seen. The
extras get behind the scenes of his wrangling the brutes and
they really are worth watching - this guy has nerves of steel!
The kids will love this and adults watching with them cannot
fail to be entertained by the exploits of Steve Irwin. Collision
Course is a comedy adventure nicely weighted with tongue
in cheek.
Conclusion: 80% Extras: 70%.
