The men of the Polish and Czech air forces, in particular,
proved themselves the equal of British and Commonwealth pilots
and soon they became integral parts of the air defences.
Deep Blue World looks at the lives of two pilots who flee
Czechoslovakia after the Germans invade and end up training
on bicycles with the RAF.
Franta Slama (Ondrej Vetchy) and Karel Vojtisek (Krystof
Hadek), like the other foreign pilots are both bemused and
annoyed at the treatment but, eventually, they get to don
wings again and take to the skies in Spitfires.
The aerial dogfights in Deep Blue World are excellent and
the friends look after each other in battle until they find
a woman has come between them.
Things then get a bit murky and friendship turns on the part
of one into enmity.
As a fan of World War II movies and of the great storylines
offered by the RAF and the Battle of Britain - like the movie
of the same name and the TV series Piece of Cake - this chap
found Dark Blue World to be excellent viewing.
It's in Czech and English, has great actors and drama and
looks sensational. If you are into good, involving war movies
with romance and a realistic flavour then Dark Blue World
could be for you.
Conclusion: Movie 85% Extras 80%
