We won't go into the dastardly plot that Blofeld (Charles
Gray) has thought up - well, okay, we will - he is going to
build a laser satellite and wants to focus the high-energy
beam with the cluster of diamonds.
He has enlisted the help of two main killers Mr Wint (Putter
Smith) and Mr Kidd (Bruce Glover) and they are superb. This
must be one of the first movies to show homosexuality - with
the pair at one stage holding hands after a murder - and they
definitely enliven Diamonds Are Forever with their
presence.
Jill St John is Tiffany Case, the chief Bond girl, and she
does an acceptable job as the gorgeous offsider. (And, I reckon
she looks as good in the Inside: Diamonds Are Forever
feature in the extras - filmed 30 years after!)
The action scenes are good 1970s-style efforts and the finale
on the oil rig could well have given Francis Ford Coppola
the idea for the Ride of the Valkyrie scenes in Apocalypse
Now.
This isn't the best Bond movie around, but the transfer is
pretty good and is worthwhile in that it was the last official
007 movie made by Sean Connery.
Conclusion: Movie 75%, Extras 85%
