That comes as no big surprise to the squaddies, who have
little time for the glamour boys, but finding little bits
and pieces of them among great globs of gore all over the
place has them thinking.
Fortunately, the patrol is led by a no-nonsense sergeant
Sean Pertwee and has some pretty good soldiers in it, including
Kevin McKidd who failed to get into special forces after he
refused to shoot a dog.
Just to make his nightmare worse the captain who rejected
him, Liam Cunningham, is the only survivor of the special
forces team.
Needless to say things get nasty very quickly and Dog
Soldiers is sort of a mix between Aliens and Panic Room.
The guys are trapped in a cottage surrounded by a pack of
giant werewolves and have to survive until daybreak.
It won't be easy and this all boosts your enjoyment levels
as you sit safe and snug watching them get ripped apart.
The video transfer of Dog Soldiers is very apt, keeping
colours muted and visual tension high. The audio is thoughtfully
done with a decent level spiking up through your surround
speakers whenever some horrid or brutal thing is happening.
For a low-budget debut, this is a very fine horror yarn that
is realistic and won't insult your intelligence.
Conclusion: 85% Extras: 70%.
