Don Henley: Live Inside Job

For a man who semi turned his back on the music world, Don Henley, the voice of The Eagles, has come back into the public eye with a DVD roar.

He was part of the stunning Eagles: Hell Freezes Over concert - which was chosen as the best of last year's Music DVDs, and has backed that up with his own show.

Now, not being a Henley devotee I can say the guy has a great voice and is a terrific live performer, but I wouldn't have played his albums/CDs or DVDs (with the exception of Hell Freezes Over) to death.

That was until I plonked down and heard his sensational performance of Hotel California on Live Inside Job.

The absolutely magical guitar version in HFO was very hard to beat, so what does Henley do - he goes back to the roots of California and puts a Spanish version of the great rock track together.

Never has it sounded so appealing and the use of brass instruments gives a fantastic Latin flavour to it.

Other Eagles tracks he uses are New York Minute, Desperado, and The Long Run, although each is handled in a more traditional way, albeit with a really strong backing of brass.

On top of that, Henley has got his own hits to perform and The Boys of Summer and All She Wants to Do Is Dance are excellent.

The transfer is very good, although the images are a tad soft. The contrast is well handled and the concert shots give you a excellent view of the performers.

The sound is available in DTS, 5.1 and Stereo, with the 5.1 track being a rather nice effort.

This is a must for Eagles fans, others should have a viewing before deciding on it. Personally, I'm happy to keep this one in the collection.
