The lead is the very underrated Dennis Quaid who, as the
world-weary knight Bowen, sets out to avenge humans for what
he sees as the treachery of dragons.
His target is the last remaining dragon, Draco (Sean Connery),
who gave half of his heart to save the life of a prince, Einen
(David Thewlis), only to have the little swine turn into a
brutal, evil king.
Finally doing battle, but being unable to kill each other,
the dragon and knight form an initially unwilling alliance
and go about on a series of amusing adventures - including
one where Bowen is paid to shoot down a dragon (guess who)
that has been terrifying a village. The scene of middle-ages
anti-aircraft gunnery is terrific and handled with a delicate
and delightful touch.
Deciding to do away with the vicious Einen, Bowen comes to
the shocking realisation that because of their joined hearts
he cannot kill the king without killing his great friend.
The visual effects are nothing short of sensational with
Draco being rendered to high-detail perfection and the countryside
and sets are picture-postcard stuff.
Dragonheart is a fantastic movie that will appeal to almost
everyone.
