Doctor Who: Vengeance on Varos

Review by James Anthony

To Doctor Who fans, the series was a brilliant eye opener into what could be in the future - but who would have guessed that the producers could have picked the birth of excreable reality-TV.

That's right, 17 years before shows like Survivor and Big Brother reared their ugly moronic heads, the Doctor (Colin Baker) and his assistant Peri (Nicola Bryant) find themselves trapped on a world that loves watching televised torture and execution. Talk about history repeating...

The planet is the former prison colony Varos, and the time-travelling pair has landed there because it's the only spot around that has supplies of the TARDIS-driving Zeiton ore.

Mistaken for prisoners, the Doctor is forced to fight for life, liberty and the BBC against the ignorant hordes.

The all-on-one-disc series is terrific and the transfer perfectly acceptable.

Conclusion: Movie: 90% DVD Extras: 75%
