Four Ingredients: Series 2 brings viewers 90 more tantalising and quick recipes
to get you and the whole family's taste buds jumping.
The recipes on the DVD are split up into six sections for easy viewing pleasure.
You can pick the section you wish to view or go for the foodie marathon and
watch them all in one hit. There are 4 minute meals for those who are strapped
for time, pasta & rice for those wanting the ultimate comfort food, healthier
fast food for people who crave the naughty stuff, but don't want the weighty
side effects, and a back to basics section that showcases the simplest of the
most simple quick and easy meals to make.
The first few episodes on the DVD consist of a BBQ section with juicy garlic
steak, onion snags sausages slightly halved and filled with sweet
caramelised onions, almost like a hot dog without the bun and a deliciously
simple tomato and Boccherini salad topped with basil to go on the side. I don't
eat a whole lot of meat but the look of that steak and those sausages nearly
made me convert to a fully fledged carnivore!
Along with the tasty comes the I'm not so sure about that! I don't believe fruit
should appear in savoury salads, some examples would be pears and apples,
mango, or the baby spinach and strawberry one featured. What about strawberries
with vanilla ice-cream and caramelised balsamic sauce? (Okay it actually sounds
kind of nice) But still something which has never appealed to me! The melted
ice-cream and balsamic mixture ended up looking like what vanilla ice-cream and
chocolate sauce becomes when combined, but I can't get my head around the fact
it isn't chocolate. Apparently, it tastes great though! Maybe I should branch out
a bit?
Having said that, the good recipes outweigh the bad by a long shot. Some of my
favourites were the macaroni bake, tender little pasta tubes mixed with rich
tomato soup and sprinkled with lots and lots of cheese, cookies and cream
ice-cream with real deal big cookie chunks, and just about everything in the
Mexican banquet!
Also be sure to check out some very creative pizzas made by year one students.
There is no holding back with what toppings they choose to combine. One in
particular stood out to me as a major belly ache waiting to happen. A pizza
topped with chicken, salami, marshmallows, snake lollies and barbeque sauce all
finished off with a good handful of grated cheese! Needless to say, the look on
one little boy's face sums up just what it must have tasted like.
All in all, Four Ingredients: Series 2 is a sweet little cooking show, with
recipes that will keep your family's tummies full for less money and less
energy, but with all the taste included!
