Comments on extra features:
Columbia-TriStar has come up with a very good package of extras for Gangs of New York that not only go into the exceptionally detailed production behind the movie, but look at the history of the period it is set in.
Pick of the bunch is a 35-minute doco from Discovery Channel on The Gangs of New York and this is rivetting stuff. The 13-minute History of the Five Points with Scorsese and Di Caprio is a briefer historical look. Other features include focuses on production design - a 9-minute chat with Dante Ferretti - and interviews with cast and crew. There is a 23-minute wander through the amazing sets created for the movie and an 8-minute look at the wonderful costumes.
