Ghost Ship

The oceans are mighty big out there and when you are on a ship - even a huge cruise liner - you tend to realise how alone you and your fellow passengers really are.

Almost anything can happen to you before help gets there and, in Ghost Ship, almost everything does.

The movie focuses on a salvage team that is hired to grab hold of a drifting liner. Not that the team is initially interested until the name Antonia Graza is mentioned.

That ship is as famous as missing ships get and the chance to not only get hold of the riches, but also find out what happened to her 40 years before is too much for Murphy (Gabriel Byrne) and his crew, which includes Epps (Julianna Margulies), Dodge (Ron Eldard), Santos (Alex Dimitriades), Greer (Isiah Washington) and Munder (Karl Urban).

Joining the team - having located the floating vessel - is pilot Jack Ferriman (Desmond Harrington) who tells the salvagers that unless they act quickly the Antonia Graza will hit rocks and her hundreds of millions of dollars in treasures will go down with her.

When they find the old girl they hop on board only to discover that all is not what it seems and something sinister closes in on them. Of course, the fact their own tug is sunk doesn't help their situation and then the nightmare truly begins...

I have to say I found Ghost Ship an entertaining horror movie to watch with enough chills, spills and spookiness to afterwards stop me from kicking myself for having wasted my time.

It is a tad far-fetched (then what horror movie isn't), but it works and there are some sensational moments of extreme ookiness. The first five minutes are absolute rippers - and you get to see possibly one of the best horror scenes filmed.

The video transfer is excellent with superb detail and sharpness, while the sound is possibly even better than the picture.

Well worth the effort.

Conclusion: 80% Extras: 70%.
