If you liked Gladiator then you will be pleased to know that it is now available in Columbia-TriStar's Superbit range.

For your money you will get a boosted image and a choice of Dolby Digital 5.1 or DTS soundtracks.

So, the question is do you get your bucks' worth?

Well, without putting too fine a point on it 100% yes. The picture quality of Gladiator on Superbit is astounding and will have you greedily eyeing up the biggest screen you can possible find in the shops and trying to work out ways to pay for it.

The image is sharper than a gladius and the colours are rich and beautifully rendered.

The early scenes in Germania are miserably cold but once the guys hit warmer climes the colours are so real you can imagine only needing to reach out to grab hold of a toga or tunic.

Mind you, the Superbit sound is even better and the damage this movie could do to an underworked sound system could be disastrous.

The whoosh of arrows and fireballs against the barbarians will send shivers up your spine and the Collisseum scenes explode with the sounds of a screaming crowd and the clash of metal weapons and slice of blade through flesh.

Ooooooooooo - this may not be for the squeamish.

Gladiator on Superbit is a must for home-theatre owners.

Conclusion: Movie 90%
