The Man With the Golden Gun

James Bond has a serious rival in The Man With the Golden Gun and he's not going to be easily disposed of because he's very much the dark side of 007 himself.

Francisco Scaramanga (Christopher Lee) is the world's most highly paid assassin and earns $1 million a shot. His weapon of choice is a golden gun and it fires gold bullets.

Having dealt with many would-be rivals already, Scaramanga wants to test himself against 007 for being the best killer in the world.

Based on Ian Fleming's last novel, The Man With the Golden Gun has Bond (Roger Moore) trying to track down the assassin and retrieve a Solex Agitator converter that makes solar energy even more powerful.

Filmed in some sensational locations in the Far East - including the astoundingly beautiful Khow-Ping-Khan island - this Bond is even more eye-catchingly gorgeous than most.

Old-stager Lee obviously relishes his chance to get rid of his Dracula cloak and teeth and plays the aristocratic killer with a charm that is just delightful. During filming he had to put up with a lot of Dracula jokes from his fellow actors.

The Bond girls in The Man With the Golden Gun are Maud Adams, the only woman to appear in two 007 movies, and Britt Ekland. Adams is cooly beautiful, while Ekland is very good running around in a bikini, but not much else.

Herve Villechaise plays Scaramanga's very short assistant Nick Nack - he was going to be known as demitasse (a small coffee cup).

The popular Sheriff JW Pepper (Clifton James) makes a guest appearance and features in the car jumping across the river scene - rated as one of the most amazing stunts ever filmed.

All up, The Man With the Golden Gun is a great Bond yarn that sits very well in the collection.

Conclusion: Movie 85%, Extras 85%
