Head of State

Review by James Anthony

What happens when a black local councillor is suddenly and malevolently thrown into the cauldron of US presidential politics - well, lots of laughs and some cutting views on politicians and their hangers-on.

The guy in question here is Mays Gilliam (Chris Rock) who is made a sacrificial candidate for the 2004 presidential race after the other candidates get killed in a plane crash.

Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle

Taken under the wing of the party machine folk, Gilliam doesn't know it but his task is not to win - or even go close - but rather to build up a base for a "better" candidate next time around.

Initially he toes the line but then discovers that he's been taken for a dope and so throws away the rule book and runs the elction race in his own way.

Head of State is a funny, acidic look at US politics from a black-American point of view - and it will make many current politicians squirm.

If you like Rock then it is a must-see, if you don't then it is still an entertaining hour-an-a-half.

Conclusion: Movie 80% Extras 60%
