Highway

Review by James Anthony

It is hard to know where to place Highway in the order of things. It's a road movie, a voyage of discovery, it begins with a pool cleaner Jack (Jared Leto) bonking his boss's wife and being caught - hence the need for a road trip.

He takes off with his druggie mate Pilot (Jake Gyllenhaal) pursued by thugs who have been paid to hunt him down and break his feet.

Along the way they pick up a young woman Cassie (Selma Blair) and meet up with a really spaced out hippie. It is actually worth watching the movie to see John C.McGingley - who usually plays cringingly awful parts - as the long-haired dropout!

Anyway, Highway follows the group on their trip to Seattle and along the way they get the news that Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain has wasted himself. So, it becomes a pilgrimage.

So, how does Highway rate? Well it is very hit and miss. The start is ordinary, apart from the boss's wife's outfit and then slowly picks up a bit from there.

Overall it is definitely teen-oriented but gets lost too much along the way for my liking.

However, McGinley is an absolute treat!

Conclusion: Movie 55%, Extras 0%
