However, as the competent spy needs the brilliant boxer to
get him an introduction to his target arms dealer - fight
fan Arnold Gundars (Malcolm McDowell) - he just has to cop
all of the crap Robinson throws his way.
Mind you, there are some compensations for Scott as he gets
to work with his long-time dream gal Rachel (Famke Janssen).
The personality conflict between the two main characters
does make up the backbone (and funny bone) of I-Spy
and at times will have you wetting yourself. But it is also
an action movie and both the espionage and boxing scenes race
along nicely.
Despite its box-office mauling, I-Spy has been given a superb
video transfer on to DVD and will bring joy to the eyes of
big-screen home viewers. It is sharp, clear and has no visual
glitches whatsoever.
The sound is not quite so good - with points taken away for
the dialogue getting shouted down in some action scenes.
I-Spy is a funny movie that is not the stinker many critics
suggest it is.
Conclusion: 80% Extras: 70%.
