In a world first, Jamie attempts to overhaul school
dinners and create
a healthy, smarter generation. Watch as Jamie takes on an established
school system, which is restricted by a minuscule budget of 37p
per student that enables school's to feed children every processed,
greasy and fried food available. This is a generation of children who
eat fried chips with every meal. For Jamie the task of introducing a
healthy menu is a lot harder then he first thought, as he not only has
to convince the kids but also the dinner ladies, school and government
officials and parents. Along
with head lunch lady Nora, Jamie sets out to transform the menu in one
school and then the entire Greenwich school district in order to
introduce vegetables, curries, fresh chicken etc to the fatties and the
grease guts. Not surprisingly, the kids are initially
rather hesitant to accept the new menu (chocolate or celery?) and more
food ends up in the bin rather then in their mouths. Is it really
possible? Can Jamie change the food choices of a generation? This
is an insightful behind the scene documentary that gives viewers a
chance to witness Jamie’s passion for this cause and how it
affects the other areas of his life. Fans of Jamie’s previous
work (Oliver's Twist, The Naked Chef) will know nothing in his
life is off limits. We witness first hand Jamie at work at his
restaurant ‘Fifteen’, at home with his kids and be a fly on
the wall as he and wife Jools argue about the time he spends away from
home. Luckily, the DVD comes with two audio
options, “the original TV broadcast” and the “non-expletive version”
for the younger viewers. For full effect, one can't go past a few of Brit profanities heard the way god intended. If you aren’t already a fan of healthy eating you will be by the end of
this series. After hearing the doctors speak of the health problems
affecting Britains youth with their current diets and watching the
processed food be prepared you will definitely up your vegetable intake
with your next meal. It's
a riveting series, which will not only entertain Jamie Oliver fans but
may also change the way you view your own eating habits. And after watching how a chicken nugget is made you
will never eat one again! EXTRAS Jamie’s School Dinners
