Anyway, ignoring his mum's warning, Michael (Lance Guest)
heads back to the Bahamas to continue his study of conches
safe in the knowledge that great white sharks don't like warm
water.
Or do they?
Getting a savage premonition of more tragedy, our heroine
pops on to a plane and hightails it down to her boy who has
just had a run-in with the beastie-of-the-whopping-chompers.
Aided by a friendly, but shady, pilot (Michael Caine), Ellen
and her lad battle it out with the giant piece of flake.
Jaws the Revenge has copped a bit of a flogging from critics
but, I found it to be much more interesting and a lot more
white-knuckle inducing than the previous two follow-ups to
Jaws - they being Jaws 2 and Jaws 3.
The plot is way left-field, but enjoyable, and the imagery
and characters pull it through and make it believable (almost).
Gary is very good as the lonely widow who finds a new lease
on life through the shark and Mr Caine. Speaking of which,
he is in his element as a carefree womaniser who falls for
the troubled newcomer.
Lance Guest is fine as the would-be main course and Mario
van Peebles plays an amusing role as Michael Brody's research
partner.
The video transfer is good and really makes the most of some
beautiful scenery, while the sound builds the pre-attack tension
nicely. It is, however, only Dolby Digital 2.0.
Conclusion: Movie 75%, Extras 30%
