Jurassic Park 3

The tale of dinosaurs continues with the return, albeit reluctantly, of palaentologist Dr Alan Grant (Sam Neill) to an island populated with dinosaurs.

This time around, the good doctor is on the sister island of that featured in the original movie and Jurassic Park 3's Isla Sorna contains some very nasty brutes indeed.

So nasty, in fact, they wreck a plane and strand Grant, a businessman (William H Macy) his gorgeous wife (Tea Leoni), some bodyguards and Grant's assistant.

We can't go into the early plot too much - it sort of spoils some things - but needless to say the members of the stranded group find themselves being lined up by some seriously mean terrible lizards.

If you thought velociraptors and T-Rexs were bad, there's this big mutha with a set of teeth that can knock them all off very quickly. I'd tell you its name, but the pillow over my head to protect my eyes muffled the scientific term.

Needless to say, Jurassic 3 has some pretty good moments where you either go "eeeek" or "errrrrkkkk". It is violent, gory and while not a brilliant movie, will keep you well entertained.

Sam Neill is excellent and the role he brings back to the series is beautifully acted. He is a much needed slightly sour note among what can be a little too gushy "American" family crap.

Macy is okay, although to be fair I don't rate him in much other than Fargo. To me, one of the big disappointments is Leoni, who overplays her role as a distraught mother. The dinosaurs are great, the action very good, but the soppiness does at times have you reaching for a bucket.

However, it has a good transfer, the sound is fine and it is a fun movie to watch.

Conclusion: Movie 75%, Extras 10%
