Kath & Kim (Series 3)

Review by Clint Morris

"Kath and Kim" came along at a time when Australian was in desperate need a good sitcom. In fact, 'til this day some are still seeking medical assistance streaming from “Sit Down, Shut Up” exposure.

For those that haven’t seen the show – and judging by the ratings, there isn’t anyone that hasn’t – it’s the brainchild of former “Fast Forward” cast members Jane Turner and Gina Riley.

Kath & Kim (Series 3)

The duo play a suburban mother and daughter, eccentrically Australian, who each and every week battle, bitch, whine, drink Latte, and dance oh so horribly.

In short, it’s pants-wetting fun.

The series seems to have lost a bit of its freshness by the third season, but that only means it’s now only 100 times better than previous Oz sitcoms, not 200 times. So it’s still well worth watching.

Highlights this season include a reappearance by Mick Molloy (always a chortle) back as Kim’s biological father, some baby raising tips from new parents Kim and Brett, Sharon’s infatuation with her best mate’s beau, and of course (there goes the budget) the season ender featuring international superstar – plus whatever cosmetic work she’s had done – Kylie Minogue.

Surprisingly, Minogue was quite a corker in the episode, in which she plays Kim’s daughter in a scene from the future.

There’s apparently another season left in the gals. Best case situation: A few more gags in it than last season, and no Jason Donovan as Kel’s lovechild in the finale.

DVD Extras

Some good extras on this disc (compared to previous seasons) : The amusing ‘Lady Bump’ number at the Logies, a goof reel, Interviews with Kath and Kim, a featurette, deleted scenes, wine time and a bit featuring eternally annoying, but oh-so amusing, Prue and Trude.

Conclusion: Movie 85% Extras 70%
