Review by Anthony Morris

Life As We Know It, Katherine Heigl's latest film, sees her playing pretty much the same character she always does.

But as there seems to be a market for bland, personality-free yet somehow uptight female leads, that shouldn't be a problem.

life as we know it

The - frankly - insane story here shouldn't be a problem either as we follow a married couple who die and leave their one year-old daughter to be cared over by their two best friends - people they know actively loathe and despise each other.

Clearly they were aware that they were living in a romantic comedy though, because it doesn't take long for Holly (Heigl) and Messer (Josh Duhamel) to discover the usual love lurking beneath the hate.

While the romance is there, the stress is more on the comedy here, and we're firmly in "am I right girls?" territory as the one-year old shits had throws up everywhere as the adults lives are slowly destroyed / taken over by the job of child rearing.

Strangely, it's only the free-wheeling, womanising, sports loving Messer who actually seems to give anything up to take care of the child : he gives up his job (luckily he has savings, so he can offer to help Holly expand her business when the bank knocks her back), the other women, his motorbike - even his lucky hat - so he can become a bland robot just like Holly always was.

If any of this was funny it wouldn't be a problem, but with a firm focus on poo and gay jokes this is about as hilarious as the sudden death of your two best friends and as romantic as asking your lover for a business loan.

DVD Special Features

Not much on offer in the world of Special Features here aside from a few Deleted Scenes. If only the entire film was a deleted scene.... Am I right lads!?!

Conclusion - Movie: 80% Extras: 10%
