The Lion King 3: Hakuna Matata stars the charming, though
flatulant, warthog Pumbaa (Ernie Sabella) and that painful,
but funny, meerkat Timon (Nathan Lane). These guys stole the
show for me in the original movie and now we find out how
it is they came to play such an important role in helping
young Simba out.
It may surprise many, but Timon was actually thrown out of
his meerkat tribe for being hopeless. No, tis true, and his
early misadventures are hugely funny and are accompanied by
some fun new songs. Listen out for the voice of Timon's mum
and see if you can pick who else she plays.
So as he trudges alone through the Serengeti the exile meets
up with an equally lonely Pumbaa who has been expelled from
his herd because of the gas he ... well ... expels.
Together they go on their journey and this is where Hakuna
Matata comes into its own because it uses the famous scenes
from The Lion King and now puts a different and funny angle
on them with Timon and Pumbaa present - albeit in an unseen
way.
It is very cleverly done stuff that adults - and older children
- will appreciate.
All up The Lion King 3: Hakuna Matata is good viewing and
is worth the cost of the DVD.
Conclusion: 80% Extras: 60%
