Little Einsteins: The Christmas Wish

Review by Ben Vernel

I'm not a kid (although if you ask my girlfriend you may get a different or completely opposite answer), so I can't review this DVD is terms of program quality.

I've got to approach this from a more technical standpoint.

However, a quick summary for those who are unfamiliar with Little Einsteins.

Little Einsteins

It's a children's show that attempts to teach kids about art and music through fun adventures with it's four main characters.

The episodes encourage a lot of audience participation and playing along, and it seems to be pretty popular with the younger set.

The show incorporates famous artwork and music into the fairly wafer-thin plots and stories, yet it is a pretty generous source of culture amongst the generally bland and worthless children's entertainment that saturates television these days.

There is only one truly Christmas-themed episode so don't buy this if you are expecting a Christmas sack full of holiday cheer... for you will be cheerless.

Little Einsteins: The Christmas Wish
features four episodes of the eponymous children's television program.

The episodes included are:

  • "Show And Tell" - in which the kids learn about Mayan architecture and the Carmen Suite No. 1 by Bizet.

  • "The Christmas Wish" - which focuses on Für Elise and Starry Starry Night and is pretty much the only Christmas-themed episode here.

  • "The Wind-Up Toy Prince" - featuring The Nutcracker Suite and Little Dancer by Degas.

  • "The Northern Night Light" - which teaches the kidlets about Flight Of The Bumblebee and The Road in front of Saint-Siméon Farm in Winter by Claude Monet.

Pretty heavy stuff, right? It's a long way from those halcyon days of watching Puddle Lane and Super Ted...

DVD EXTRAS

The DVD has a 'Fast Track' function, which plays all episodes automatically after simply inserting the disc.

Handy for those "mums on the run"!

The bonus material consists of a game called "Magic Mission Mode: Holidays Around The World", and a special bonus episode of Winnie The Pooh!

Yep, that Winnie The Pooh. Sweet.

From what I can gather, this is a fairly reputable and popular show
and this DVD does nothing to denigrate it's reputation.

Let's face it,
if I were still (physically) a kid, I'd be on this like white on rice.

Nice work, Disney.

Conclusion: Movie 80% Extras: 80%
