Which they do.
Anyway, his one saving grace is the fact he does love his
family and in order to give them a bit of a lift he pins his
hopes upon winning a luxury holiday from the local newspaper.
Unfortunately, he gets it into his head that the holiday
is his by right and when someone else wins it he goes off
the deep end.
Then the poo hits the revolving object as he kidnaps the
elderly winners and steals their holiday. After that his life
is never going to be the same.
The Martins is an uneven comedy-drama about the internal
workings of the neighbours-from-hell.
The cast, however, is excellent.
Lee Evans does a terrific job as the hopeless Robert and
despite myself I just kept hoping things would work out for
him. His long-suffering wife Angie is wonderfully played by
Kathy Burke, her mother by Linda Bassett, and the kids Little
Bob (Eric Byrne) and teen mum-to-be Katie (Terri Dumont).
The Martins will appeal to some more than it did to me -
I just couldn't get past what a loser the guy is - although
there are some very funny moments in it.
The video transfer is fine, the sound okay, and the dialogue
easy to understand.
Conclusion: 60% Extras: 30%.
